NFL opens up end zone celebrations

The NFL had previously awarded the 2021 Super Bowl to the Inglewood stadium, but construction crews announced last week that unusually heavy winter rainfall will delay the venue's opening from 2019 until 2020. Five Super Bowls have been played at the Rose Bowl and two at the Los Angeles Coliseum, where the Rams will play until the new $2.6 billion stadium opens. However, at the National Football League spring meeting on Tuesday, the National Football League owners unanimously approved the decision to move Super Bowl LV from Los Angeles over to Tampa, Florida.

Now this will not free players up to celebrate in ways that the league will deem "offensive" or that delay the game, but this is as close to a purely positive rule change as I can imagine.

LA will now host the Super Bowl in 2022.

"The Tampa Bay area has enjoyed great success over the years hosting Super Bowls and we look forward to working with our local leaders in the coming months to meet the requirements for hosting Super Bowl LV in 2021", Tampa Bay Buccaneers co-chairman Bryan Glazer said in a release.

SAINTS: Two players of the 2009 Super Bowl championship squad, linebacker Jonathan Vilma and guard Carl Nicks, will be the next inductees into the team's Hall of Fame.

And players have told us they want more freedom to be able to express themselves and celebrate their athletic achievements.

Ringling Brothers streams final circus performance
Ringling had two touring circuses this season, one ending its run earlier this month in Providence, Rhode Island . One commenter remarked: "i remember seeing the Greatest Show on Earth as a little girl with my family".

The NFL wants to put some flair back into touchdown celebrations, allowing players to use the football as a prop, celebrate as a group and roll around on the ground again if they choose. Instead, it chose to move the game to Tampa, runner-up to Los Angeles in the bidding.

At the NFL's spring meeting in the Windy City, owners approved a handful of rule changes, one of them being shorter overtimes.

There is no set time limit on how long such celebrations can continue.

"I actually think it will be easier" for officials to determine which celebrations are appropriate, said Alberto Riveron, the league's new senior vice president for officiating. But the league is placing an emphasis on speeding up the pace of games.

League officials will review celebrations during the preseason and anticipate providing guidance as the regular season progresses.
