Cardinals place Piscotty on DL with hamstring injury

Milwaukee Brewers relief pitcher Neftali Feliz, right, and catcher Jett Bandy celebrate following a 5-4 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals in a baseball game Thursday, May 4, 2017, in St. Louis. The severity of the strain has not been revealed, but an injury of this variety typically requires a trip to the disabled list.

It had been almost three years since the Milwaukee Brewers won a series over the rival Cardinals, but a major league milestone helped end that streak. Pham spent all of 2016 with the Cardinals but lost his job this spring to Jose Martinez.

Cardinals outfielders Dexter Fowler and Stephen Piscotty left Thursday night's game against Milwaukee after getting hurt.

"It's awesome for the team morale and I think it's awesome for our confidence", said Keon Broxton, who had four hits for the Brewers.

Neither starter lasted past the fifth inning. Pham was promoted from Class AAA Memphis, where he's hit.283 with a.371 on-base percentage and four home runs to go with 19 RBIs in 25 games.

Milwaukee rallied from 3-0 and 4-3 deficits to win the game, which was shifted from Thursday afternoon to Thursday evening in an effort to avoid Thursday's rainy weather after Wednesday night's game was postponed. Adleman (1-1) allowed 6 hits and 2 runs in 6 innings. Yadier Molina's RBI single put the Cardinals ahead 4-3 in the bottom half.

Anderson gave up seven hits and four runs in 4 2/3 innings, issuing three walks and fanning six.

Piscotty threw out Broxton at the plate when he tried to score on Anderson's single.

The Cardinals also announced that infielder Jhonny Peralta, who has been on the 10-day disabled list since April 17 with an upper respiratory condition, will begin an injury rehabilitation assignment today with Palm Beach (A). First pitch for the first game is scheduled for 6:05 PM CST, with Jimmy Nelson (1-2, 5.34 ERA) slated to face off against Chad Kuhl (1-2, 6.26 ERA).
