Blast near Damascus airport thought to be Israeli strike

A series of blasts have ripped through an arms supply hub close to Damascus International Airport in Syria.

Israel previously has been accused of firing on Hezbollah position and Iran-backed armed shipments in Syria and Lebanon bound for terrorists.

A large explosion has hit an area near Damascus global airport, a monitoring group says.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has refused to comment on the incident.

Katz, who is also transportation minister, told Army Radio in an interview Thursday morning that "the incident is completely compatible with our policy of preventing weapons transfer to Hezbollah", the Lebanon-based terror group supported by the Syrian regime and Iran.

In Israel, Minister of Intelligence and Transportation Israel Katz declined to say whether his country carried out the strike.

The Syrian military official said the airstrikes damaged a fuel tank and warehouses but did not say if there were casualties, state-run Syrian Arab News Agency reported.

He said the explosion was reported to have happened near the Damascus airport road.

The FDA said symptoms include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. However, no cases of illness resulting from the consumption of these products have been reported .

The explosion occurred at a military installation near the Damascus airport, according to both SANA state TV and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a United Kingdom -based monitoring organization with on the ground contacts in Syria.

The Israeli military said it deployed its Patriot missile defence system to tackle the projectile incoming from Syria above the Golan Heights. It went to war with Hezbollah in 2006 and the group has grown considerably more powerful since then.

Hezbollah, an ally of President Bashar al-Assad, is involved in the fighting in Syria's civil war.

Israel generally neither confirms nor denies involvement in such attacks.

The relations between Israel and Iran have been strained since the Iranian Revolution in the late 1970s.

Meanwhile, air strikes on two hospitals in rebel-held northwestern Syria yesterday left 10 people dead including two babies in incubators, a monitor said.

Israel largely stays out of the complicated conflict next door, although the border region is restive and authorities have retaliated to occasional stray rockets with reprisals.
