AT&T workers go on three-day strike

The strike includes workers in 36 states covered by the AT&T Mobility "Orange" contract, as well as workers at AT&T West, AT&T East in CT and DIRECTV in California and Nevada. Master said the company had rebuffed a request for data that would clarify the extent of the practice and other changes to its workforce. AT&T workers will return to work on Monday and have vowed to do what they have to do if AT&T violates their rights or an open-ended strike becomes necessary. The held signs reading "On Strike" as customers went in and out of the store and pedestrians walked by.

Employees at several area AT&T stores, including the one at the Eastwood Mall in Niles, and the call center in Boardman said they plan to join the picket line.

Union members want wage increases, no increase in healthcare contributions, and tighter job security protection from outsourcing.

The strike involves less than 14% of AT&T's workforce, the company said. 12,000 call center jobs in the USA have been eliminated since 2011 as AT&T has chosen to instead contract with third-party vendors overseas that supply low-wage workers who aren't subject to much weaker labor protections.

Cannes audience 'almost rioted' after technical issues for Netflix film Okja
When the movie started for the second time, there was booing again at the Netflix logo. The festival later issued an apology over the technical issues.

The group is from the Communications Workers of America Local 4320.

The strike includes DirecTV technicians in California and Nevada.

It isn't the first strike at AT&T. "This is a warning to AT&T: there's only one way out of this now-a fair contract-and we'll settle for nothing less". If it happens, we will continue working hard to serve our customers. And in February, an estimated 21,000 AT&T Mobility workers in 36 states voted to strike as well, with 93 percent in favor. But the company is under increasing pressure on Wall Street to cut costs, as revenue in both its older wired telephone business as well as the once-fast-growing wireless unit have declined.

What's most important is we're all family, whether you're a union member or not. But under the Taft-Hartley Act of 1947, sitting USA presidents can unilaterally intervene in strikes or even potential strikes that they claim could create a "national emergency" and order workers to end their walkouts and return to work.
