Schmeichel smoulders after Leicester hit by Atletico penalty

On Thursday morning Leicester City manager Craig Shakespeare took his side for a recovery session at Real Madrid's first class training facility at Valdebebas.

The France striker was fouled by Leicester's Marc Albrighton on the edge of the box and referee Jonas Eriksson deemed the action to have continued into the penalty area.

Griezmann collected the ball outside his own area and ran to just inside the Leicester box before being crudely barged over by Albrighton. "They might have scored from what should have been a free-kick but it is easier to score from a penalty".

The 26-year-old has scored 24 times in 44 games in all competitions for Madrid this season, and he's also chipped in with nine assists, proving he is one of the most risky forwards in Europe right now.

But City were furious as Foxes skipper and keeper Kasper Schmeichel protested at half-time and Shakespeare after full time.

The Foxes host Atletico Madrid in Tuesday's quarter-final second leg, having lost 1-0 in Spain on Wednesday, with Robert Huth banned and Yohan Benalouane their only available centre-back. But we have to create more chances and attack more than we did tonight.

Captain Wes Morgan is also battling a back injury and remains a doubt, with Yohan Benalouane the only recognised centre-back now available. It was provoked but it did get a bit tasty so we left.

Atletico played well Wednesday and should have done better than the narrow 1-0 victory, but the players and coach Diego Simeone were celebrating the advantage they will be carrying into the return match on Tuesday.

UEFA have announced a charge of improper conduct for Leicester's sports scientist Tom Joel, who was sent to the stands during his side's Champions League 1-0 defeat against Atletico Madrid.

"I didn't think he needed to apologise, if I'm honest", he said.

"Well, Atletico went to the Bernabeu last week and drew, so I don't think they will be quaking in their boots going to the King Power!"

"Atletico are a very good team, their work ethic is exceptional".

He added: "I've seen enough throughout the squad, through working with them". "We knew we were walking a tight rope. But honestly, it is touch and go and we'll have to look at team shape over the next few days", Shakespeare said.

"We have got a good record at the King Power and the tie is still alive".

Unusually for Diego Simeone's men they were in nearly complete control of possession, but largely limited to shots from long range.
