Rock Hall 2017 class includes Pearl Jam, Tupac and Journey

"I've been gone a long time, I understand that, but I want you to know that you've never not been in my heart".

In March, Snoop Dogg received a surprising call that he was selected to induct his late friend and "2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted" collaborator into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Pearl Jam then reunited with Dave Krusen to perform "Alive", while Matt Cameron returned to the kit for "Given To Fly" and "Better Man". He also had an unexpected shout out for Chance The Rapper, whom he thanked for his work in in Chicago with the school system and revealed the love his daughter Olivia has for him.

Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam kicked off his acceptance speech at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by getting political Friday night at Brooklyn's Barclay's Center. "That's right - Tupac got Snoop Dogg smoking blunts", he said to laughs from the audience. But it was when they added the iconic voice of Steve Perry, that their careers took off. Perry and Journey went their separate ways in the late 80's and again in the mid-90's after a brief reunion.

The ceremony also included an honor for Chuck Berry, who was the very first artist inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Baez sang the traditional ballad Swing Low, Sweet Chariot, varying the lyrics towards the end as she expressed her hope that the song's band of angels were "coming for to carry me, you, us, even Donald Trump, home". The vibe between the two, despite all of the recent drama around whether or not the band's former singer would show up, seemed genial.

Perry's last full concert with Journey was in 1987.

To be eligible, all of the nominees had to have released their first recording no later than 1991.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is hosting a live simulcast.

Folk icon and activist Joan Baez, Journey, Electric Light Orchestra, Tupac and Yes all entered the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at Friday's ceremony.

Disco producer Nile Rodgers, the man behind 1970s hits like Le Freak and We Are Family, was presented with a special award for musical excellence.
