North Carolina forward Luke Maye has had a good week.
Fox, the hero of Friday's semifinal victory over UCLA, committed fouls on back-to-back possessions against little-used Stilman White, who had scored only 36 points all season (or three less than Fox scored against UCLA).
Luke's father, Mark, played quarterback on the Tar Heels" football team in the "80s, and as a child Luke attended basketball camp at the university.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Roy Williams went all "Gone With the Wind" when a player asked about his North Carolina Tar Heels making the last shot Sunday to edge Kentucky to the Final Four.
But, in the end, the Wildcats had no answer for Maye or Kennedy Meeks.
Then there was Sunday...
Fox's early fouls were his own fault.
North Carolina will play OR in the Final Four at 8:49 p.m. on Saturday night at University of Phoenix Stadium.
Cambridge suffer hard-fought defeat in Men's Boat Race
The official winning distance was one boat-length-and-a-quarter but it was closing as the crews inched towards Chiswick Bridge. Earlier, a World War Two era bomb, found in the Thames a few days before had put the race in doubt.
North Carolina scored the first six points and led for the entire first half.
On Saturday in Glendale, North Carolina will have the chance to take the next step on its redemption tour. For Kentucky, Humphries scored 12 points, and senior guard Dominique Hawkins continued his hot NCAA tournament shooting by drilling a pair of three-pointers and scoring 10 first-half points. On the other end, Carolina missed the first free throw of a one-and-one, and then Monk drilled another triple to suddenly tie the game with seven seconds left. "We get to keep playing".
It's understandable, considering this may have been the duo's final collegiate game if they opt for the 2017 NBA Draft.
The guy who came in averaging 5.1 points in 13.8 minutes per game went for 16 points and 12 rebounds in the win against the Bulldogs.
The Final Four of the 2017 NCAA Tournament takes place on Saturday, before the national championship on Monday.
Kentucky guard Malik Monk had just knocked down the second of his two 3-pointers inside the final 40 seconds, this one with 7.2 seconds remaining.
"We still got our open looks, but they just, I guess they just went farther than what they were in the first half", Leon said.
Pinson, the Heels' charming über-athlete, had been a major factor in helping both teams to that point - his defense on Kentucky's superstar tandem of De'Aaron Fox and Monk was as vital as his brainless turnovers were backbreaking. With the ball in his hands so much, he will be a tough out for any Wildcat player to hold down for too long. This morning, we got a flawless reminder of that courtesy of the hero of North Carolina fans everywhere, sophomore Luke Maye. This is the second straight time the Tar Heels have been the region's top seed and advanced to the Final Four through Memphis, and now they can only hope they replicate their success of 2009 when they won the program's fifth national title.
