Instagram Now Boasts 700 Million Active Monthly Users

In a very short interval of time, Instagram Reaches 700 Million Monthly Active Users.

But a year ago, you might have said there was a question whether a picture-based service like Instagram could have reached similar scale - whether it was universal enough, whether there were enough people whose phones could handle it, whether it could survive greater competition from newer photo networks like Snapchat.

The company, which was founded in October, 2010 took over two years to cross the 100-million user mark.

Over time, the app withdrew digital frames from its library of filters, while also adding a number of features as it grew.

So far, it's working.

Instagram appoints the rapid growth to a number of reasons. These include a simplified sign-up process and a barrage of new features introduces over the past several months, much like those found on Snapchat. About 80% of its users are now based outside the USA, notes TechCrunch.
