Hannity defends Fox News president Shine amid report

Hannity's freak out is over New York Magazine's Gabriel Sherman saying on Twitter that Shine may not have the support of the Murdochs.

The social-media outburst was likely meant to bolster Shine - Hannity played a large role in Shine being hired at Fox News so many years ago - but one person familiar with the company acknowledged it has probably put the executive more firmly in cross-hairs of public opinion.

"Gabe, i pray this is NOT true because if it is, that's the total end of the FNC as we know it", Hannity tweeted.

In response to a report by New York Magazine's Gabriel Sherman which said that Shine is anxious he may lose his job, Hannity tweeted, "Gabe I pray this is NOT true because if it is, that's the total end of the FNC as we know it. Done". "I think the rank and file believe he will be replaced, but who knows?" this person said. (O'Reilly and Ailes have denied any wrongdoing.) On Thursday, CNN reported that the Justice Department's investigation into sexual harassment at Fox News, and whether the company properly disclosed settlement payments to shareholders, has widened to include a United States Postal Inspection Service probe into potential financial crimes.

According to Sherman's reporting, Shine recently asked James and Lachlan Murdoch, the 21st Century Fox CEO and chairman, to publish a statement in support of him.

Flynn was warned not to accept foreign government payments
Chaffetz has left Washington for a few weeks while he undergoes emergency surgery on his foot . He could not immediately be reached for comment Thursday.

Hannity also tried to get a hashtag going in support of Shine - it took a couple of tries. He has been cited in four different lawsuits brought against Fox News Channel by current or former employees.

Shine joined Fox News in 1996 and was a longtime producer for Hannity's programs.

Roger Ailes is gone. Spokespeople for Shine and the Murdochs tell the magazine he never asked them directly for a statement. Fox News continues to be the most-watched cable news network and is typically among the leaders in all of cable, not just news. "Done. Best Sean", he wrote in the first of five tweets about Sherman's report.
