Google reveals 17-lense VR-ready camera

"To get Jump cameras into the hands of more filmmakers than ever before, today we're also announcing Jump Start". It's a monster camera rig content creators will flock instantly to. The camera system actually features a total of 17 4K unit cameras that can record immersive scenes with more flexibility, continuity, and easier control. The Halo is created to be field-serviceable; the kit has two spare cameras which can easily be swapped into place so that a single camera failure wouldn't stop progress on a shoot-the kit even comes with the screwdrivers you'll need to make the swap. Both new cameras are being displayed this week during the NAB Show in Las Vegas.

The Xiaomi-backed Halo cameras have also been built to work seamlessly with Jump Manager, the Mac-only app that syncs up the rig to Google's cloud-based service for converting raw footage into VR videos and photos. Built by the same engineers who created the acclaimed YI 4K and 4K+ action cameras, the YI HALO's mechanical structure, hardware, firmware and software have been thoughtfully designed to deliver the highest level of imaging technology. While the company doesn't expect the Yi Halo to draw in huge money for the company, its launch is seen as a step towards building significantly more affordable, consumer-grade VR cameras at some point in the near future.

Google jumped into the hot new VR camera segment with the launch of the Halo 360-degree camera. But, the Yi Halo also comes bundled with its very own Android app that can be used as a remote or to view live previews. They plug into the rig vertically and there's just a single main battery pack. There's Nokia's $40,000 Ozo camera, Facebook's x6 and x24 rigs, GoPro's Fusion for 5.2K action footage and now the Halo. Users should expect about an hour of battery life.

Siskiyou County authorities held Cummins on a fugitive arrest warrant for aggravated kidnapping issued out of Maury County, Tenn. At that time, authorities said they suspected Cummins, a former Culleoka Unit School health science teacher, had abducted her.

The Yi Halo shoots up to 8k x 8k at 30 FPS, or 6k x 6k at 60 FPS, and, thanks to the Jump assembler, outputs 3D 360 video.

The Yi Halo will cost $16,999 and will hit the United States first before Yi's home country of China. They'll be given access to a free Jump camera as well as the Jump Assembler to help kick off more virtual reality content. Applications are open today and run until May 22nd.

The democratization of the 360 video movement is at the heart of JUMP's messaging and, to back that up even further, Google is also announcing Jump Start - a program that will provide qualified creators with Halo units free of charge.
