Andy Murray hints at possible break before Madrid Open

Andy Murray surrendered a 4-0 lead in the decisive third set, as the world No. 1 suffered a shock 2-6, 6-2, 7-5 loss to Spain's 15th seed Albert Ramos-Vinolas in the third round of the Monte Carlo Masters yesterday.

Meanwhile, Jamie Murray made a winning start in the last 16 of the men's doubles, joining forces with Bruno Soares to beat Tommy Haas and Treat Huey 6-3 6-2.

The world number one had a 4-0 in the deciding set but even that wasn't enough to see him making it past the Spaniard.

But Djokovic was able to draw on all his guile and experience to get back on top and close out the match, setting up a testing quarter-final clash with David Goffin.

Also on Wednesday, 11th-seeded Frenchman Lucas Pouille, 13th-seeded Pablo Carreno Busta and fellow Spaniard Albert Ramos-Vinolas recorded convincing straight-set victories. "It's just that sometimes there should be maybe a little bit more tolerance and understanding for certain situations like that one, where it was very long point, at 6-5 in the third".

Goffin had lost all previous five matches to Djokovic and looked to heading for another when the 12-time Grand Slam victor led 4-2 in the decider. That s only going to get better.

"Of course, playing in Monte Carlo has a special meaning to me because I live here and I train in this club all year round".

His only tournament win this year came at the Dubai Championship in March after he lost to Novak Djokovic in the Qatar Open final following an early exit at the Australian Open to unheralded Mischa Zverev. "That's why I always try to give extra effort to really make a good result in this tournament".

But at 2-0 up in the second set, the sloppiness kicked in and Carreno Busta served it out to level the set score.

The momentum was with Djokovic, but the resilient Goffin had other ideas.

Cilic, the 2014 U.S. Open champion, seemed to be in command when he broke at the start of the third set but 15th-seed Ramos-Vinolas rallied to claim a 6-2 6-7 (7-5) 6-2 quarter-final victory.
