Amid Oppisition protest, Kerala Minister MM Mani says 'didn't insult women'

After being cornered by a united Opposition in the Kerala Assembly over his alleged anti-women remarks, Electricity Minister M M Mani on Tuesday cried foul and said that he didn't insult women.

The Kerala Assembly witnessed pandemonium today morning as the Opposition staged protest inside the Assembly hall demanding the resignation of Minister M.M. Mani.

Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan has thrown his weight behind power minister M M Mani, who is in the eye of a storm for allegedly making comments denigrating "pembilai orumai", a collective of women planation workers in Munnar.

Gomathy, who is sitting on a road near here since Sunday evening in protest along with three other women workers, said: "We are not going to call off our protest, unless he (Mani) comes and apologises before us".

Party state general secretary M.T. Ramesh said the party took the decision in wake of allegations that Mani, a senior CPM leader helped land encroachment in Idukki district and his kin was the "beneficiary" of such illegal deal, Ramesh told reporters here. We do not know why Vijayan, who has earlier asked E.P. Jayarajan and A.K. Saseendran, to resign, is not asking Mani to quit. Some vested interests have blown it out of proportion to make political capital out of it.

Grizzlies Hold on for Game-4 Overtime Win Over Spurs
Game 5 is Tuesday in San Antonio. "According to the media, we were supposed to get swept anyway". Tucker helped contain the Bucks' All-Star with physical play in the post in the fourth quarter.

"There is no question of me going to Munnar and apologising before the protesting women".

The Minister also said that the news about Pembilai Orumai's protest was false. "I can not speak like a scholar. Some media people and BJP tried to get more protestors but they did not get", Mani alleged. Kerala Industries Minister Jayarajan had resigned in October a year ago over charges of nepotism while state Transport Minister AK Saseendran quit his post late last month after an audio clip of him purportedly asking for sexual favours from a woman was played on a newly launched TV channel.

State BJP leader Sobha Surendran said the Chief Minister should ask for Mani's immediate resignation.

Mani said he would act according to the instructions of the party. Find us on Facebook too!
