Twin sisters, 97, die in cold outside Rhode Island home

Twin sisters who were 97 years old froze to death in the cold after tripping and falling outside their Barrington, Rhode Island, home Friday, Barrington Police report.

Police say the twins had returned to Haley's home with their 89-year-old sister, who is also from Barrington, Friday night after they had dinner together.

Both were found dead the next morning, and police believe they may have frozen to death.

After going up a few stairs to access the door leading to the house, Jean Haley tripped over a loose carpet, lost her balance, fell the stairs, and landed on the garage's floor.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said on Sunday in a visit to Israel that his state will not tolerate acts of anti-Semitism. Thompson was charged with one count of cyberstalking, which carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison.

Foul play was not suspected. Haley's body was found in the garage.

Investigators say Ms Williams lost her footing first and Ms Haley fell as she tried to go for help.

A neighbor found the sisters Saturday morning. They spent the overnight hours in below freezing temperatures. They were rushed to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence in critical condition, but died shortly after. Neighbors contacted said the same. Haley lived along the Providence River waterfront in Barrington for more than 60 years. All three went to Haley's Opechee Drive home at about 8:30 p.m.

As police continue to investigate the weekend deaths of twin sisters in town, the police chief said it does not appear foul play was involved in the case. He was an Army captain in World World II and was described by the Journal as "instrumental in liberating concentration camps in Belgium".
