Emojipedia have published 69 mock-ups of what the proposed new emoji will look like, and these are what you'll see being used to hold conversations rather than conventional words. because, you know, words are so hard.

A total of 69 candidates are being considered for the 2017 update.

The emojis have been mocked up by Emojipedia (via Engadget) and do not represent the final designs deployed by software makers like Apple and Google, but they shouldn't be too far away.

The draft list includes merpeople, magicians and gender inclusive pictographs which are "open to interpretation".

Almost 70 new emojis are coming our way later this year, including a mermaid, a dinosaur, a genie in a bottle and a woman in a hijab.

There's a zombie emoji - which will be used exclusively for post-hangover Sunday afternoons.
