Ford recalls 440K vehicles for fire risk, door latch trouble

The biggest lot of the grand total sees 230,756 automobiles being recalled in the United States, Canada, and Mexico due to 29 reports of under-hood fire. Ford said a lack of coolant circulation can cause the engines to overheat, cracking the cylinder head.

The recall includes about 230,000 2014 Ford Escape, 2014-15 Ford Fiesta ST, 2013-14 Ford Fusion and 2013-15 Ford Transit Connect vehicles equipped with 1.6-liter GTDI engines. To fix the issue, dealers will install service kits which include a coolant level sensor with supporting hardware and software.

Ford will first send affected owners literature regarding checking and refilling coolant.

The Associated Press reports the second recall is an expansion of a previous one of 2.3 million vehicles including the 2012-15 Ford Focus and 2013-15 Escape and C-Max models.

More than 400,000 Ford vehicles are being recalled because of possible engine fires and faulty door latches, the auto maker announced on Wednesday.

The 2013 Ford Fiesta, 2013-2014 Fusion and 2014-2014 Lincoln MKZ are affected. A "pawl", or catch, in the door latch can break and either stop doors from closing or cause them to open while cars are moving.

Ford Motor Co. issued a safety recall to replace the drive shaft in 2017 Ford F-450 and F-550 heavy-duty trucks.

Affected vehicles may experience driveline vibration caused by a powertrain system resonance condition at speeds above 75 miles per hour.

Ford said it is not aware of any incidents or injuries related to this recall. It affects only 548 vehicles.

Dealers will replace the two-piece driveshaft with a new three-piece driveshaft and two center bearing brackets at no charge to the customer.

Lastly, 84 brand-new 2017 Edge crossovers may not be completely welded across the top of their windshield headers.

Fracture of the transmission and/or driveline components may result in a loss of motive power without warning while driving, or unintended vehicle movement in park if the parking brake is not applied, increasing the risk of injury or crash.
