Arrested 'dreamer' Daniela Vargas to be released, lawyers say

"We expect Daniela to return to her friends and community in MS shortly to resume her daily life and pursue her dreams", the Elmore & Peterson Law Firm announced in a statement.

Thomas Byrd, an ICE public affairs officer, could not comment specifically on Vargas' order of supervision, but did say orders of supervision rarely mean confinement or daily contact.

Vargas came to the United States when she was seven years old, and she grew up in Morton, Miss.

On February 15, ICE agents raided Vargas's home and took her father Daniel and her brother Allen. "We maintain our commitment to the rights of all persons in the USA, regardless of immigration status", Peterson said in a statement.

"It was a discretionary decision [by ICE] based largely on the tremendous amount of pressure in this case and the attention that it's received", immigration attorney Abigail Peterson said of the sudden release.

DTE Gives Updates on Power Outages, Downed Wires
Strong winds blew portions of school roofs away in the Grand Rapids and Saginaw areas, and knocked down trees and power lines. But after 11 a.m., outages were reported in northern Oakland County, primarily in the Lake Orion and Holly areas.

It is not yet known if Daniela Vargas will address the media upon her release.

"Disturbing that ICE may have followed her from an immigration press conference", Sen. At a news conference in Jackson, Mississippi, Vargas said a path to citizenship was "necessary for DACA recipients, but also for the other 11 million undocumented people with dreams".

"U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) took Daniela Vargas, 22, an unlawfully present Argentinian citizen, into custody March 1, during a targeted immigration enforcement action in Jackson, Mississippi", the statement said.

"There's power in many voices standing up and saying this is wrong", said Karen Tumlin, legal director of the National Immigration Law Center. But Vargas failed to renew her status at the end of the mandated two-year period in November.

Being brought to the states at age 7 on a visa, DACA, Deffered Action for Childhood Arrival, status is now expired but her renewal application has been submitted and is pending. This is direct retaliation for her speaking out at the event. The administration has declined to answer whether it plans to terminate the program, which Mr. Trump said he would do immediately upon taking office.
